Can a lighter flywheel be machined? advantages - disavantages? I have heard that working the stock one turn them into grenades? I guess id like to get the feel of no flywheel ,but still have push button start.

Not easily.  It is an "external rotor" type of system meaning the magnets in the flywheel are whirling about on the outside of the stator.  It needs to be switched the other way around, with a small rotor in the middle and stator outside, like this:

Its definitely do-able, but not affordable.

The stock one can be turned down, if you don't mind having a 9000rpm bomb next to your leg.  But it doesn't help much, since all the weight is still to the outside.

Pics back... I think.  (it was there yesterday, I swear!)

BDK is semi-interested in making one for the Hawk, but it has to be in a qty of 10 or so, and it will be expensive.  $1200+ more than likely.  I have one of theirs on my 675 and it is slick...  instant +4hp.

I was also thinking of trying to graft an early Ducati 4v rotor to the Hawk.  All you'd have to do is cut the crank taper into the ID of the rotor and come up with a method to mount the stator to the sidecover.

3rd This sound interesting. Have a Nickols cut the taper in one of his light ones. John is super nice guy always willing to try new stuff.
